OUR HISTORY:
South
Akron Awning Company was founded in 1913 to produce residential and
commercial awnings and tents, which were also rented. The business was
originally located at 871 South Main Street and did not relocate from
this location until 1960.
Besides making these canvas products, the Company also
sponsored a semi-professional football team in the 20's and 30's.
For fourteen seasons the South Akron Awnings often played before more
fans than the professionals in the area. A local sportswriter at
the time nicknamed them the Suncheaters. Memorabilia from
this era is proudly displayed at our current location at 763 Kenmore
Blvd. in Akron.
